Bonita Springs, Florida
Thank you to all the AVDA members for making the 2013 AVDA Annual Conference a huge success! Not only did we have record attendance at the meeting, but we also had record sponsorships! Present at the conference were 217 attendees, 180 delegates and 37 spouses. The delegates in attendance were from 64 member companies Active, 47 manufacturer Associate member companies, and 5 Affiliate member companies. Also present were four new members, Apogee Pharma, Georgia – Pacific Professional, Blue Ridge X-Ray Company, Inc. and Bovie Medical Corporation.
Sponsorships for this year’s conference totaled over $215,000 — an AVDA record!
Thanks to all the sponsorships AVDA was able to bring the speakers, entertainment and networking to a whole new level. All of the sponsors were recognized with glass sculptures during the opening session of the conference.
The Hyatt Coconut Point’s Waterfall Pool Deck was the perfect location to welcome AVDA members to Florida. As members mixed and mingled they dined at a variety of food stations while being serenaded by the island music of a steel drum player. For some added entertainment, a photo booth was available for members to take their photos with an assortment of crazy hats, boas, and other props.
The meeting theme of “Minds Wide Open” resonated during Monday’s first session entitled “Minds Wide Open” by Joe Calloway. Following Joe, Economist Alan Beaulieu gave a candid presentation on the economic future in the Animal Health Industry. Monday’s sessions wrapped up with the Annual Business Meeting & lunch. Tuesday kicked off another day of engaging sessions. First up was Chris Ragland of Animalytix.AVDA’s sessions were wrapped up with an energetic and engaging performance by guitarist & humorist Mike Rayburn. Mike’s message is “What If? and “Why Not?” and he uses his musical ability to convey his message in his presentation.
The days were not only filled with informative sessions, but many networking opportunities. Over 40 AVDA members went Backwater Fishing on Monday afternoon on Estero Bay. The spouse/companion tour took the guests on an educational tour of a local art gallery, to lunch and then shopping one of Naples finest shopping areas. Then on Tuesday, just under 80 members took to Raptor Bay Golf Course for a Scramble Golf Tournament while several others took a Kayaking Tour on Estero Bay.
To conclude the meeting, dinner and dancing followed a heartwarming award presentation to AVDA 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner — Loren Elder.
